Cliffhangers were fairly commonplace in the Attitude Era, with Raw regularly going off air amid in-ring shenanigans to the sound of befuddled commentators hastily claiming that they'd ran out of time (even when the show was pre-taped).

But here's the problem: they had so many of the things that they didn't always remember to resolve them. Take King of the Ring 1999, for example, where Stone Cold was denied victory in his handicap ladder match against Vince and Shane McMahon when the briefcase was yanked ever-so-slightly out of his reach.

At the time, this was a pretty big deal. The bout was contested for control of the entire World Wrestling Federation, after all, and whomever had seen fit to cost the Texas Rattlesnake victory must have had a pretty interesting motive - the type of thing that could lead to a two- or three-month feud.

Well, they never bothered revealing who it was (most internet theories have implicated Big Boss Man, which would make a lot of sense). Austin promptly moved on with the rest of his career and, after much soul-searching, so too did the fans with the rest of their lives.
