10 Best WWE PPV Matches That Ever Happened In September
5. Shawn Michaels Vs. Chris Jericho - Unsanctioned Match (Unforgiven 2008)
The feud between Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho in 2008 was the best story that year by far. Jericho was at his absolute best as a heel that did everything he could to upset Michaels. They had several PPV matches that year. Prior to this match, they had an angle at SummerSlam where Jericho accidentally punched Shawn's wife Rebecca in the ring. Jericho went for Shawn, but he ducked and nailed Rebecca instead. That incident at SummerSlam led to this match with Unsanctioned rules. In other words, it was an anything goes type of match. Jericho used the rules to his advantage by having his buddy Lance Cade interfere in the match to make it a 2 on 1 situation for much of it. It looked as if there was no Michaels was going to come back. When Michaels made the comeback the fans were really into it. There was a huge spot where Jericho was on the top rope and Michaels nailed him with a steel chair that sent Jericho through a table that was at ringside. He nailed Cade with a Superkick to eliminate him and also drove him through a table at ringside. Michaels end up winning after beating Jericho with a belt. He focused his attack on the eye of Jericho, which was payback for Jericho attacking him in the eye earlier in their rivalry. The referee stopped the match when Jericho was unable to continue. It was such a different Michaels performance. He didn't really play to the crowd. He wrestled in jeans and a black tank top. He treated it like a fight. That's why Michaels is such a great performer. He changes the way he works depending on the environment he is in.
