10 Best WWE PPV Matches That Ever Happened In September

6. CM Punk (c) vs. John Cena - WWE Title (Night Of Champions 2012)

The CM Punk/John Cena rivalry produced a lot of great matches within the last five years. Their best match was Money in the Bank 2011 and many of their other matches were special too, but Night of Champions in 2012 was really good as well. Punk was the heel WWE Champion in the middle of his epic 434 day title reign while Cena earned another title shot. It was a tricky match to book because WWE wanted to keep the title on Punk without hurting Cena (since he's always protected), so they had a very competitive matchup for 27 minutes. Their finish was different than what we were used to seeing. They fought on the top rope. Cena came off with a German Suplex with him on the middle rope while Punk was on the top rope. The ref Chad Patton counted the pinfall. Cena celebrated with the WWE Title. The ref told him that both of their shoulders were down at the same time, so the match result is a draw. That means that CM Punk is still the WWE Champion. After it was over, Punk hit Cena with the WWE Title as a cheap shot and that was it. Matches ending in a draw are not popular with the fans with good reason, but it shouldn't take away from the quality of work in the match. They really busted their ass to have a great match and that's what they did.
