10 Best WWE PPV Matches That Ever Happened In September
3. Matt Hardy Vs. Edge - Steel Cage Match (Unforgiven 2005)
It was one of the most personal feuds in WWE history. The real life situation played out on television when the world found out that Lita cheated on her boyfriend Matt Hardy with Edge. That led to Edge turning heel, Hardy getting fired for a few months because WWE was worried what might happen and then Hardy being brought back to feud with Edge when they agreed to work together. They had a bloody brawl with Edge getting busted open and the fans loving it because this was a major match in a real life feud. Matt used the cage to his advantage plenty of times. It also made sense that it was held in a cage because that way Lita wasn't able to interfere. That's something wrestling companies need to do a better job of. Give a reason why people have stipulation matches. Don't just do it for the sake of having stipulations. The ending was great. Hardy nailed a Side Effect off the top rope. Lita entered the ring to break up a pin, so Matt nailed her with a Twist of Fate and people cheered huge for that. Matt could have climbed out to win, but instead he hit a Leg Drop off the top of the cage for the decisive victory. If this match was at a WrestleMania or SummerSlam it would be celebrated a lot more than it is. That's the problem with September PPVs. They're not matches that people remember as well because it's generally a slower month. This feud would be remembered as one of WWE's best if it took place elsewhere.
