10 Best WWE PPV Matches That Ever Happened In September

2. John Cena vs. Edge - WWE Title TLC (Unforgiven 2006)

The Cena/Edge rivalry was one of the best ones in WWE in the last decade. It was a feud where Cena was already established as a top guy while Edge needed to get to that level. Because of Cena and the storyline they had, his status was raised. Edge became a WWE Champion as well as a believable main eventer. The story going into the match was that if Cena failed to win the WWE Title from Edge then he would go to Smackdown. Edge was the heel WWE Champion that was cheered for this match because it was in his hometown of Toronto. He got to pick the stipulation for it so he went with a Tables, Ladders & Chairs because it was the match he helped make famous and that Cena had never had before. The storyline fit the setting. It was one of the most brutal, physical matches in the career of Cena. He had to prove he could hang with Edge in a match he wasn't used to. Sometimes in a one on one TLC match it can get boring as guys are setting up the weapons for the spots, but they did a great job of telling a story with the weapons. Since they wrestled so many times, they had great chemistry. They were also smart in terms of how they built the match because it wasn't about climbing up the ladder that match. It was about causing physical pain to your opponent. They did a fantastic job in terms of doing huge bumps towards the end of the match. Cena took one of the biggest bumps of his career when he was climbing a ladder and Lita (Edge's on screen girlfriend) tilted the ladder back so that Cena went crashing through the table outside the ring. When Edge was climbing up, Lita hit Cena with a steel chair that knocked Cena into the ladder that Edge was climbing and Edge went through a table outside the ring. Cena gave Lita the FU to take her out. What a lovable babyface he is! Those bumps were just a taste for the ending of the match. Two tables were stacked in the ring right beside a ladder as both guys fought at the top of the ladder. Cena was able to put Edge on his shoulders (two refs held the ladder to steady it) and Cena put Edge through the two stacked tables with the FU. Referees shouldn't be holding a ladder to help a spot, but if they didn't then the wrestlers could have botched it really bad. It's one of the best matches in the careers of both men and the best one in their historic rivalry as well. Cena earned a lot of respect that night while Edge proved that he belonged as a main eventer.
