10 Best WWE PPV Themes
1. Fight (SummerSlam 2002)
Fight is the entire narrative of SummerSlam 2002 condensed down and put into a musical nutshell. At the time, there was no bigger story in wrestling than the anticipated return of Shawn Michaels and his 'non-sanctioned' match against former best friend Triple H.
Skillfully written, the feud was presented as a violent, personal vendetta with HHH desperate to shake off the ghosts of his past and become a true WWE icon. Michaels shocked the world by announcing his challenge and ignited one of the most engrossing builds to a PPV to this day.
Written by Jim Johnston, the bespoke theme may seem generic or tame to some, but when combined with the event, they produce an intangible atmosphere of anticipation. Tolling bells over rough chords give the theme a gritty foundation but it’s in the lyrics that this choice truly shines.
The shared past and desperation of both men is reflected beautifully in the words chosen. Gravely vocals rise and fall perfectly and although the song isn’t the fastest or the most frantic in terms of instruments, the methodical, relentless mood it emits only adds to its validity.
