Though the feud was eventually booked in confusing fashion, the initial buzz surrounding the Edge and Matt Hardy story in 2005 was huge. Whilst away from the company, Hardy became a bigger star than he had ever been in WWE, and the prospect of him storming RAW to attack Edge made this the must-see rivalry of the year.

The in-ring portion of the feud got off to a silly start when Edge decimated Hardy at SummerSlam, but the mistakes were largely rectified inside a steel cage at Unforgiven 2005. This was as close to revenge as Matt was going to get, a violent victory secured with a memorable leg drop from the top of the cage.

The main event of the show saw John Cena and Kurt Angle do battle in another good match between the two. Angle was arguably the best in the world at this time, and not even the interference of Eric Bischoff could hurt this bout. Angle won by DQ, setting up some after-match shenanigans with Easy E.

Shawn Michaels pulled out a decent match from an inexperienced Chris Masters, and the show started with an emotional Ric Flair winning his first ever WWE Intercontinental Championship. Even Ashley Massaro put in a good showing on this night in Oklahoma City.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
