10 Best WWE Royal Rumble Commercials Ever

1. 2005

The clear winner in any competition it finds itself in. The 2005 Royal Rumble commercial may well be the greatest WWE commercial of all time, a comedic riot through an old classic that looks like it was a whole heap of fun to film. The rosters of RAW and SmackDown donned wigs (with a couple of exceptions) to riff on iconic musical 'West Side Story', ahead of the annual battle royal extravaganza.

The highlights throughout are numerous. The facial expressions are consistently hilarious, with Eddie Guerrero, Ric Flair and Booker T three of the clear highlights. Flair manages to look far older than anyone else involved too, even when disguised. Notable mentions should also go to cool as a cucumber Randy Orton, and the man without a wig, Chris Benoit.

In reality, this is all about Rey Mysterio however. Rey was slowly becoming more of a top tier player in the company, and whilst another year would pass before he won his Royal Rumble, he was the most memorable part of this commercial and then some. Sure, that was because of his wig and mask combo as opposed to his athletic ability, but you take what you can get in truth.

The 2005 Royal Rumble commercial was a wonderfully fun example of WWE not taking itself too seriously, whilst ramping up interest in one of the biggest shows of the year. It makes the viewer yearn for more examples of WWE riffing on iconic themes, and maybe even to yearn for more ridiculous big show commercials.

At the very least, Rey Mysterio must come back as the long lost son of 1980s Ric Flair.
