Is it weird to say that Rusev seemed to represent something almost fresh when he made his main roster bow at the 2014 Royal Rumble?

He was rocking a variation of a gimmick - that of the super-angry, America-hating foreigner - that has been a staple of WWE television since the early-1980s, and yet there was something original about his act.
