It might have been a wrestling tragedy that Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan retired without having their WrestleMania dream match, but - given the size of the egos involved here - perhaps we should just be grateful that they even got in the ring together at all.

The first time that happened, in January of 1992, they added to what was perhaps the most star-studded Royal Rumble line-up of all-time, joining the likes of Sid Justice, Randy Savage, The Undertaker, Jake Roberts, Shawn Michaels, Ted DiBiase and The British Bulldog in the ring.

Part of the reason it was so jam-packed with star-power, of course, was that the show had no WWE Championship match on the under-card. Instead, every potential main eventer was entered into the Rumble, with the winner taking the title and, ostensibly, a headline spot at WrestleMania VIII.

For that, and the thrilling climax that saw Flair, Hogan, Sid and Savage battle it out as the final four, '92 has to go down as one of the all-time great Rumble matches, in an era when WWE was still trying to figure out how to perfect the art-form.
