10 Best WWE Ruthless Aggression Era Matches
6. Edge Vs. John Cena - TLC - Unforgiven 2006
2006 was a bit of a rough period for WWE. Eddie Guerrero had passed away at the end of 2005, and not only was his presence sorely missed from WWE television, but his death was also exploited in several storylines.
Not only that, but John Cena had started to divide fan opinion and every time Cena remained babyface despite the constant boos, it felt like a slap in the face of many fans.
Despite this year being very mixed, one thing which is not up for debate is the fact that this was the year of Edge. Edge had floundered in the mid-card for a while, but a heel turn in 2005 had catapulted him further up the card. By early 2006, he had cashed in the first-ever Money in the Bank briefcase and became known as ‘The Ultimate Opportunist.’
By the summer, Edge and Cena had had a lengthy feud which included classic moments such as Edge invading Cena’s family home and assaulting his father, to then being thrown into the sea by Cena. This was an Attitude Era style feud slap bang in the middle of the Ruthless Aggression Era.
This match, their feud’s culmination in Toronto, was the cherry on top of a fantastic year for both men.
