8. May 11, 2007 - Hell In A Cell Comes To Smackdown
WWE.comThe war between The Undertaker and Batista over the World Heavyweight Championship spilled over from pay-per-view to SmackDown on May 11 as the competitors met inside a steel cage. With the top prize on SmackDown up for grabs, two of the industry's best unleashed hell on one another. So evenly matched were they that as they scaled the cage walls in an attempt to escape and leave with the championship, they hit the ground at the same time. With controversy reigning supreme, the decision was made that the Deadman would retain his title. For a brief moment, that is. Capitalizing on a battered, injured champion, Edge arrived on the scene and cashed in Money in the Bank. Moments later, he captured the World Heavyweight Championship from the Phenom and SmackDown officially entered the Rated R Era. From that moment until his unfortunate, premature retirement due to neck injury in 2011, Edge would be one of the driving forces behind the brand. His relationship with Vickie Guerrero would help Edge become even more hated before. As a result, he became one of the few heels in wrestling history that an entire show could be built around. He was the centerpiece of SmackDown and feuded with every top babyface that appeared on the brand over the next four years. The night's broadcast got off to a great star with a competitive tag bout pitting Chris Benoit and Matt Hardy against MVP and Finlay and continued with Michelle McCool scoring a big win over American Idol-wannabe Jillian Hall. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vF4B4q0PKFs
