10 Best WWE Stars To Compete In A Wrestling World Cup
9. England Davey Boy Smith
There have been several great wrestlers from England who have graced WWE rings. Bad News Barrett hasnt been around long enough to be able to call him the best. The Dynamite Kid was probably the best in-ring performer of all, but his time in the WWF was relatively limited compared to others and it could be argued that he found more success in Japan than in the United States. A very close number two was William Regal, a man who has been in the promotion for decades, with a few gaps in between, and has maintained and promoted the traditional style of British wrestling during his WWE career. However, Davey Boy Smith was an iconic English (well, British) figure in WWE wrestling. A former World Tag Team Champion with The Dynamite Kid, his greatest moment of fame came in August 1992 when he captured the Intercontinental title in 1992s Match of the Year against Bret Hart. Although the Warrior-Savage World title match was officially the main event on a worldwide basis, 80,000 people packed into Wembley Stadium for one match, and one match only: Davey Boy v Bret. It was put on last and was charged with emotion. It was a night that nobody in attendance will ever forget. The success of Davey Boy Smith helped to push WWE wrestling into mainsteam prominence in the UK, and when he left the company to join WCW, they were able to sell out large venues in a way that had never before been possible. Like Regal and Dynamite, Davey Boy started his career in England, wrestling on national television while still a teenager. Wherever he went in the world, be it America, England, Canada or Japan, he soon found success, and his son Harry had a run in the WWE and is now a regular with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
Dean Ayass is a well known name to British wrestling fans. A commentator, manager, booker and ring announcer who has been involved in the business since 1993, Dean's insight into the business is second to none.
