4. CM Punk vs. Jeff Hardy (2009)
To date, this Tables, Ladders and Chairs effort from SummerSlam 2009 is Jeff Hardy's final Pay-Per-View match under the WWE banner. Punk and Hardy would square off on the following episode of Smackdown inside a Steel Cage, but SummerSlam was Jeff's supershow swansong. It's bee said that if you're going to go out, go out in style, and leave people something to remember you by. That statement seemed to ring true with Hardy, he approached the bout determined to put on a show. Rumoured personal problems between both men may have aided the storyline running between them, but match quality didn't suffer as a result of any aggro. In the co-main event, Randy Orton had defeated John Cena to retain the WWE Title, but it was the World Heavyweight Championship which stole the show. Like many other weapons-based matches involving Jeff Hardy, there were leaps from ladders and various spots involving tables. Sometimes, these sequences can feel a little routine, but there was an excellent atmosphere to this main event. The fact Punk (the heel) won didn't sully SummerSlam in the slightest, it just made people hungry to see a rematch.
