The best SummerSlam opener in history! Really, was there any doubt?

Even more impressively, this was Rey's first WWE pay-per-view appearance. More impressively still, he was hand-picked by Kurt Angle to work with him at the event. Okay, you want to be impressed even more? Mysterio actually lost his match while hiding under the ring and only retrieved it and put it on with seconds to spare.

Rey was hiding under the ring so he could surprise Angle before the bell, catching him with a rarely-seen springboard headscissors right out of the gate. From there it was back and forth and back and forth as the Biggest Little Man in WWE tried to find ways of avoiding the Olympic Hero's suplex and submission onslaught.

He did well, surprisingly Angle with all manner of kicks and dives and whatnot, before Kurt managed to counter a second-rope Frankensteiner into an ankle lock, dragging Mysterio around the ring and forcing him to tap out. Not that he was harmed by the clean loss, or anything.

On the contrary, Rey came out of the contest smelling like roses regardless of the fact his hand wasn't the one raised at the end of it. It's a great, tight 10-minute match that is still (rightfully) talked about to this day as one of the best PPV openers ever. It's certainly the best in SummerSlam's illustrious history.
