Such a simple name, I'm surprised it hasn't been ripped off a bit more in the modern age. Well, there was that one team I guess, but I'll get to them shortly. The Can-Am Connection was the duo of Rick Martel and Tom Zenk, and they teamed together in the World Wrestling Federation in 1986 and 1987.

Zenk and Martel had the sort of chemistry one would expect from a team that was close in their personal lives, as Zenk was the boyfriend of Martel's sister-in-law, and the two had been working together in the AWA for a number of years prior. They feuded with then-champions the Dream Team (Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake) as well as The Islanders, before Zenk left the company in 1987.

The tag team division was about to become stacked once more, but when the Can-Am was at their strongest in the company the division amounted to Valentine & Beefcake, the fairly inexperienced Hart Foundation, a British Bulldogs that were in and out of the company and a couple of others. Zenk & Martel seemed like a decent option for a tag run at some point.

Alas it never happened, and Rick Martel forged himself a good career in the WWF as 'first Royal Rumble record holder'.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
