10 Best WWE Title Matches In SummerSlam History

8. Edge vs. John Cena (2006)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzshUDgcERU It's not often in wrestling that you get a rivalry that's as personal and as consistent as John Cena vs. Edge. The two absolutely owned the year 2006, clashing on several stages for the WWE Championship. The feud first kicked off at New Year's Revolution in January when Edge cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on Cena to win his first WWE Championship. Although Cena regained the gold a mere three weeks later at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, their feud was far from over. Shortly following Rob Van Dam's abrupt suspension in July, Edge won the belt back in a Triple Threat match also involving Cena. With RVD out of the picture, Cena and Edge resumed their rivalry over the gold, this time with Cena in chase mode. The stars seemed to be aligned, as their long awaited rematch was set to take place at SummerSlam in Cena's backyard of Boston. It seemed like the perfect time and place to put the title back around the waist of Cena, but Edge was determined on proving all the naysayers wrong. As expected, Cena and Edge had a highly entertaining contest that night. The two had such awesome in-ring chemistry together that it was near impossible for them to have a bad match. As hot as the crowd was for the contest, they figured it was a foregone conclusion that Cena was walking away with the gold. However, after nailing Cena with a pair of brass knuckles behind the referee's back, Edge secured the three count and surprisingly victory over €œThe Chain Gang Commander.€ The two would meet in one last rematch the next month at Unforgiven to conclude their epic feud.
