As maiden world title wins go, only a handful in WWE history - among them Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania XII and Eddie Guerrero at No Way Out 2004 - can truly hold a candle to Jeff Hardy overcoming all the odds at Armageddon 2008.

The build-up, botched though it was because of Jeff's ill-timed suspension at the beginning of the year, was largely on point.

The opponents, Edge - arguably the best heel of the twenty-first century - and perennial establishment figure Triple H, were perfect.

Above all, the timing was impeccable - because nobody really saw it coming. We all thought that the Charismatic Enigma would be too risky a choice as SmackDown's top guy heading heading into WrestleMania, which seemed to point towards one of the others walking out with the belt.

But, for whatever reason, WWE decided that was time to throw the die-hards a bone. Jeff got his confetti moment in front of an elated audience to crown his long and tumultuous journey to the promised land. An incredible moment, and a great match too.
