Yet another wrestler whose talent far outweighed his accolades, Rob Van Dam has, on and off, spent close to a decade working for Vince McMahon without being given the opportunity to headline WrestleMania.

It is tempting, on first glance, to look at this state of affairs and point the finger of blame at Vince McMahon and his gang of boardroom cohorts who insist that main event wrestlers have to be musclebound power merchants who could win a Mr Universe contest.

But, in truth, there are other factors at play here too. The very second RVD did get his shot in the main event - in 2006, when he briefly held the WWE and ECW Titles simultaneously - he wound up shooting himself in the foot by getting busted for drug possession.
