Daniel Bryan is the best wrestler in the world. That isn’t hyperbolic: right now, there’s no one better than the American Dragon. He’s been the best in the world for over 10 years, from his ROH title reign, to his babyface peak in 2014, to his current run as SmackDown’s most consistent performer. Bryan hasn’t had the flashiest 2020 to date, which will hopefully change in the latter half of the year, but the work he’s done so far more than warrants his spot on this list.

His title shot against The Fiend at the Royal Rumble legitimised Wyatt’s character as a fighting monster champion, with Bryan’s peerless selling taking the tired crowd and getting them passionately invested in the outcome by the closing stages. His two technically oriented matches against Drew Gulak were incredible, with their submission match on SmackDown being one of the very best TV matches of the last five years.

Finally, he had a minor classic with AJ Styles on SmackDown for the Intercontinental title, bringing out Styles’ best work as a technical wrestler since their bout at TLC 2018. The way Bryan pieces together his matches to make each opponent look distinctly brilliant is a skill that most wrestlers will never have. His offence is vicious, his promos are incredible and with every appearance, he proves himself to be even better than his reputation.
