10 Best WWE Wrestlers Of 2020 (So Far)
2. Edge
Edge’s return has been the brightest part of a dark year in professional wrestling. His comeback at the 2020 Royal Rumble is the best moment of the year, with his teary face as he walked down the ramp being one of the most emotional moments in wrestling history. The innate power of someone getting their dream back after nine years of thinking it was over forever is indescribable.
Edge’s performance in the Rumble was incredible too, with his spears looking better than ever. His stamina was incredible for such a long time outside of the ring and he played his role perfectly in the climax of the match. Edge’s strengths as a performer were amplified by the Raw after the Rumble, with his devastation upon the assault from Randy Orton being gutting to watch. The way he held his hand out to Rey Mysterio while lying in the stretcher has haunted me for months.
His divisive WrestleMania match with Orton succeeded at proving his endurance and his impressive physical performing, portraying a broken man pushing his soul to the limits to make up for a decade of misery. Their subsequent match at Backlash showcased his technical chops, proving that he could structure a singles match in an entirely new way, utilising his neck injury and an assortment of new offence to perfectly tell the narrative.
Edge being back in wrestling still doesn’t feel truly real, but is proof that anything is possible in this insane artform.
