An entirely different tape from Silver Visions vastly inferior UK-only release of the same name, Prime Cuts was a US-exclusive release from Coliseum Home Video covering the first year of Monday Night Raw in 1993. Most of the great matches and memorable moments are here, including but not limited to The Kids shock upset victory over Razor Ramon, Shawn Michaels classic with former tag partner Marty Jannetty, a storming King of the Ring qualifier pitting Portland Wrestling rivals Curt Mr. Perfect Hennig against Matt Doink the Clown Borne, and a really well-worked tag title switch between The Steiners and The Quebecers. Unfortunately, politics do play a part in knocking this down the list a few places, as Ric Flair is omitted due to his having returned to WCW meaning his bloody loser leaves the WWF belter with Mr. Perfect doesn't receive an airing. It would have been a better choice than Perfect-Doink, as good as that match was. There was a better Doink match available too, namely, his criminally underrated and oft-forgotten 2/3 falls match with Marty Jannetty. It was and remains one of the finest Raw matches I have ever seen. Minor quibbles aside though, this is a tape that should be part of everyones collection. For UK readers, it is worth the cost of importing for sure.
The author of the highly acclaimed 'Titan' book series, James Dixon has been involved in the wrestling business for 25 years as a fan, wrestler, promoter, agent, and writer. James spent several years wrestling on the British independent circuit, but now prefers to write about the bumps and bruises rather than take any of them. His past in-ring experience does however give a uniquely more "insider" perspective on things, though he readily admits to still being a "mark" at heart.
James is the Chief Editor and writer at historyofwrestling.co.uk and is responsible for the best-selling titles Titan Sinking, Titan Shattered, and Titan Screwed, as well as the Complete WWF Video Guide series, and the Raw Files series.
