10 Big Mistakes TNA's New Owners Can't Afford To Make In 2017
5. Putting Jeff Jarrett On Television
Fans were left rolling their eyes when Jeff Jarrett’s TNA return was announced last week, but his new role shouldn’t be too invasive. Jarrett has been brought back as an Executive Consultant, not an on-air talent, and that’s good news for everyone involved. He might be one of TNA’s founders, but nobody need to see Jarrett on Impact anymore, particularly given his track record with the company.
He’s not as reviled as Dixie Carter or Vince Russo, but Jarrett is one of the most polarising figures in TNA history. Jarrett regularly used his clout to push himself as a main eventer, and he had several reigns as TNA Heavyweight Champion. At a time when TNA fans were pining for the ascent of younger, more exciting stars, Jarrett was a roadblock for the likes of AJ Styles, and he rarely toned his own push down.
For as long as Jarrett is around, there’ll always be a temptation to put him back on television, particularly when things aren’t going so well. Anthem must resist this at all costs. The last thing TNA need is Jarrett hogging airtime in 2017, particularly if it comes at the expense of the company’s budding young roster. His presence would be a constant reminder of some of the absolute worst moments in TNA’s dark history - a history they should be looking to distance themselves from at all costs.
