10 Big Mistakes WWE Have Made With Bray Wyatt

5. No Title Reigns

Wyatt’s atrocious in-ring record remains his biggest problem, but it wasn’t always this way. His current fortunes certainly don’t merit a title run, but Bray was initially portrayed as a brutal, vicious competitor capable of going toe-to-toe with almost anybody, yet he’s rarely looked close to title contention. Even at the height of his powers, Bray never benefited from an extended run in the title scene, and it’s extremely unlikely WWE will ever recover enough of his lost interest to get him back to that level.

WWE had a great opportunity to mint Wyatt shortly after his destructive feud with Cena in 2014. The World Heavyweight Title was vacant, and WWE named Wyatt, Randy Orton, Cesaro, Alberto Del Rio, Roman Reigns, John Cena, and Sheamus as contenders. They met in a ladder match at Money in the Bank, and while Wyatt’s match with Cena at Payback had left his momentum in the doldrums, this would’ve been a great opportunity to rebuild him.

Sadly, all the match meant was another loss to Big Match John. It has often been said that Wyatt is the type of character that doesn’t need championships to be relevant. That may have been true in the early days, but Wyatt’s character needs credibility more than anything at the moment, and his slump started at almost this exact point in his career.
