10 Big Mistakes WWE Have Made With Bray Wyatt
6. Supernatural Powers
Being a professional wrestling fan requires a certain suspension of disbelief, often to extreme levels. There are times when the sport embraces its inherent cheesiness with open arms, and sometimes it works. When you think about it, The Undertaker’s entire “deadman” gimmick is a ridiculous concept, but he’ll likely be remembered as one of the sport’s greatest ever characters thanks to the strength of his portrayal.
Sometimes, however, WWE’s writers go a little too far off piste, with one such example being Bray Wyatt’s supernatural powers. The Undertaker and Kane have often delved into this territory, but WWE’s attempt at recreating this with the Wyatts fell completely flat, and only damaged Bray & co.
The lights cutting out for Bray’s suddenly appearances/disappearances are borderline acceptable, but Wyatt’s apparent command over fire and lightning their the Family’s 2015 feud with the Brothers of Destruction? No, just no.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Bray’s feud with Dean Ambrose kicked-off when Wyatt distracted Ambrose with a childlike hologram during a Hell in a Cell match. Kayfabe might be dead, but resorting to such ridiculous techniques does nobody any favours, and only strips away Bray’s realism to leave him looking like a cartoon character.
