10 Big Questions About Jinder Mahal As WWE Champion
5. Will The Company Continue The Anti-American Rhetoric?
Upon becoming Number One Contender, Mahal was immediately instructed to roll back the years with a jingoistic promo lambasting American audiences for booing him.
Two problems quickly emerged with the strategy. Not only were the fans in attendance that night not even really reacting to him other than to express shock at his surprise victory, but they'd also never particularly hated him for his race or culture at any point during his recent or prior run with the company.
'Angry foreigner' is a safe haven for Vince McMahon, with countless examples of the persona trotted out over the years for the cheapest of cheap heat in and around any time the country has been in conflict with another nation.
Thankfully, fans across the country seem to be rejecting the notion in 2017. Despite some of the rhetoric coming from Vince's good friend taking residence in the White House, his audiences are sound less enthused with having to jeer a supposedly evil foreigner.
At this point, it's the lamest and most unnecessary element of the entire gimmick. Mahal is a fluke champion, a brutish boss to his sacrificial lambs and an insecure coward underneath his ripped frame. Fans should be allowed to hate him merely for the content of his character rather than the colour of his skin.
