10 Big Questions About Jinder Mahal As WWE Champion
3. Will He Stay In Main Events When He Eventually Loses The Title?
Arguably one of the most important aspects in making a main eventer is actually making a main eventer.
As obvious as it sounds, even a push as big as the one Jinder Mahal is currently receiving does not guarantee a seat at the top table for life. In fact, in a worst case scenario where company officials and/or audiences consider him a massive failure, he may end up in a lower position than he was before his improbable rise.
For all his many failings, John Bradshaw Layfield converted his stint in to several more years as a reliable performer at that level should the company be in need. But for every JBL, there are far more cases of accelerated ascents that ultimately buried the performer underground in the aftermath. It's a reality symptomatic of any era. Vladimir Kozlov was shunted into bottom-rung comedy after almost a year as a killer, whilst King Kong Bundy went from main events to midgets between WrestleMania 2 and 3.
Much of Jinder's future will be determined by his present, with his past seeming so disconnected from his current standing that it's almost not worth considering. Match quality has to improve due to a bar set far higher in recent years thanks to the in-ring chops of his contemporaries, but Jinder's fate beyond that remains mainly in his own propensity to grow into the lofty role.
