The SmackDown Tag-Team Titles have been held by four different teams since being created in August, 2016. Heath Slater and Rhyno, The Wyatt Family (Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton), American Alpha and now The Usos have all held the straps, and that contrasts heavily with the fewer changes Raw's duo titles have experienced since the brand extension.

Admittedly, The New Day's lengthy stint with the gold did play a role in that, but the fact is that both 84 day reigns experienced by Slater and Rhyno and American Alpha ultimately achieved nothing; even the most hardcore of fans would be hard-pressed to name memorable matches from Alpha's reign in particular.

Right now, WWE must be wondering if they even need two sets of tag belts.

It's likely SmackDown's straps will play part in 'Mania's Kickoff portion, and that really does little to make them look strong opposite Raw's version of the belts; arguably, the tag-team divisions aren't deep enough across both brands to warrant two sets of tag titles, so there's a case to be made that the blue belts should be scrapped.
