6. Is Turning AJ Styles Face The Right Call?

Recent reports have suggested that WWE offered Shawn Michaels the chance to wrestle AJ Styles at WrestleMania 33; realistically, as much as he would like to work with a talent like AJ, the retired Michaels was never going to step foot between the ropes regardless of which carrot WWE dangled in front of him.

As a back up plan, having Styles target Shane McMahon isn't a bad spot for AJ to be in, but what will the future hold for him following their clash at 'Mania?

It's not hard to spot affection towards Styles; cheered more than he is booed during on screen appearances, the popular AJ has become one of WWE's best all-rounders and that's something people admire. Should WWE and AJ himself flirt with such positivity, there's little doubt he'd transition nicely into a top babyface.

Is that the right call though?

A hasty change from cocky villain to fully-fledged babyface may actually hurt Styles in the long run, and he's earned the right to breathe as a heel; analysing the SmackDown roster also makes it clear that a top heel like AJ is needed on the brand, because aside from Bray Wyatt and The Miz there aren't too many other viable bad guys.
