8. Rules When It's Convenient

Kane was backstage at Raw once again, trying to warm Stephanie up to the idea of his taking over Smackdown as General Manager. Stephanie turned him down, but the pair was immediately interrupted by The Miz and Maryse, making their returns to Raw after a month away to film The Marine 5: Battleground.

The Miz was angry, complaining about the limo that took him to the arena and lashing out at Kane. That prompted The Big Red Machine to remind Stephanie that, according to section G1 of the WWE rulebook (someone's a puro fan), a champion must defend his title every 30 days or risk being stripped of it. Stephanie agreed, telling The Miz that he would have to defend his belt later in the show.

Given that there's been less of a focus on titles - and champions defending their titles - than ever in recent years, it was particularly stupid to bring up that old "rule" that WWE used to trot out in days gone by. Brock Lesnar didn't defend his title every 30 days when he was WWE Champion, nor did Dean Ambrose when he was a heel U.S. Champion. Pointing the rule out only made the exceptions to it more glaring.
