10 Big TNA Signings That Were Completely Wasted

10. Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan was badly overpaid in TNA (reportedly $35,000 per taping), but hey, he was also completely wasted to boot, as the company got absolutely nothing out of him, and were actually in a worse position after he left than before he came in.

In late 2009, Hogan and Eric Bischoff were the talk of the wrestling world as they signed on to join TNA. For the first time in years, the company actually had some positive buzz behind them. Sure, many fans were leery, but there was still some sense of optimism that the two had learned from their lessons in WCW and were hungry enough to start one last great wrestling war. They were not up for the task.

Hulk’s heart never seemed to be into this venture. He didn’t really promote the company when he was making media interviews and he certainly didn’t add anything on-air beyond taking up a lot of TV time...a hell of a lot of TV time.

Still, in 2010, when he first debuted, he was largely a positive name in the business (this was well before some certain leaked footage got out!) and a guy that could have opened up a lot of marketing and TV deals across the world for his new employer. For whatever reason, that didn’t happen, and he was foolishly booked as the center of the TNA universe for his entire time there.

As a babyface GM type who shows up once an episode, he could have given a rub to the younger talent, and been a net positive for TNA. But he was badly overexposed and turned heel in an atrocious storyline that reeked of late WCW at its worst. Everything about Hulk's run in TNA was one giant waste that certainly sped up the demise of the company.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
