10 Big Wrestling Matches With Terrible Botched Finishes
4. Ultimate X Match (TNA Bound For Glory 2005)
Ultimate X was one of TNA's old signature gimmick matches. An elaborate stipulation, it was designed to showcase the famed X Division's athletic talents, and saw two cables connected to a metal structure built around the ring, crossing 15 feet above the canvas. A large red "X" or a championship belt would be hung in the middle, with the winner being the first to grab the object.
Petey Williams, Chris Sabin, and Matt Bentley took part in the bout at Bound For Glory 2005. It was supposed to determine the next number one contender for the X Division Championship, but while the participants were three of TNA's most exciting wrestlers at the time, the match was a shambles.
A faulty hook meant that the big red X hilariously fell to the mat halfway through. The wrestlers did their best to no-sell the screw-up, and after some panicking, the officials eventually reattached it. The action continued, but it didn't last: the X fell down again just a few moments later, landing in Williams' arms. At this stage, the referee said "sod it," awarded Petey the match, and brought the farce to an end.
