The buyer's remorse over FOX's one billion dollar negotiation for SmackDown must be setting in pretty deep at this stage, as the show settles into a decidedly worrying trend of decline below even the most pessimistic projections.

Shareholders petitioning Murdoch managers for answers may reasonably be told that the deal, whilst still patently ridiculous, was sold on the strength of Ronda Rousey's popularity. It's not their fault that the re-scheduled SmackDown's proposed figurehead decided to take a leave of absence in pursuit of pregnancy. Get the long knives out for the mendacious lot at Titan Towers. Heck, they lie to their own shareholders - why not us?

Extrapolating at the current rate, then, at some point both FOX and WWE are going to grow desperate, and certain demands will come to the fore. Whether she's had a baby or not, the red carpet will roll out for the World's Baddest Woman - hopefully spiking the show's best rating. It could be a one-off, or the start of a second run. Either way, it seems set in stone.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
