10 Big WWE Reveals Nobody Honestly Cared About
5. What's In The Box?
Following the 2019 draft, Erick Rowan was split from his long-time tag team partner Luke Harper and shifted to Raw. Although the change to a singles competitor had not worked for Rowan in the past, WWE clearly felt that enough had changed that they could reinvent him and give him a clear push as a dominant big-man.
Rowan soon began turning up to his matches carrying a cage concealed with a cloth. After squashing his opponents, the former Bludgeon Brother would drag them over to the cage and give them a sneak peak of whatever was hidden inside. For the most part his foes would run screaming from ringside, building up intrigue for where this angle was going.
The story continued for a few months before WWE decided to shock the world by revealing exactly what kind of beast was lurking in Rowan's cage. But instead of a rat, or a bird of prey - which would have been logical - Rowan's pet monster turned out to be a giant, animatronic spider straight out of a B-movie. The whole angle was a blow-out. One week after the payoff, the spider was crushed by Drew McIntyre putting the creature and the audience out of their misery.
