Way back in 1988, the Honky Tonk Man had been Intercontinental Champion forever. 64 weeks in fact, in what is still the longest IC Championship reign to date. Despite this, Honky was pretty damn awful in the ring and not that over as a heel either. For a comparison, imagine if Adam Rose had won the title earlier this year and held for over 12 months.

Either way, at the inaugural SummerSlam Honky was scheduled to face Brutus 'The Barber' Beefcake, but Beefcake was injured. As a result, Honky was to face a mystery opponent and he took to the microphone to state that he didn't care who it would be.

Well, he was about to care. Familiar music hit and the crowd subsequently went bananas as the Ultimate Warrior sprinted down to the ring. The Fink didn't even have time to tell us how much the challenger weighed before the match was on, and thirty seconds later it was all over.

Ending such a monumental title reign in such a fashion might seem silly, but go back and watch the crowd response to those 30 seconds. Everyone is going nuts.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
