The cage looked massive but the man rag-dolling Cody around it looked nearly as big. WWE have bastardised the cage match with strange rules that ask the babyfaces to act like cowards. They’ve also demoted the stipulation beneath their own Hell In A Cell but AEW have gone a long way to restoring the cage’s prestige.
In AEW the cage match wasn’t a climbing race, with babyfaces trying to peg it over the top to safety. It functioned as the stipulation was supposed to, as a trap with no one getting in or out.
With nowhere to go, Cody had to face down the monster. And Wardlow was quite the monster, a guy who could absorb a disaster kick without even taking a knee.
