10 Biggest Improvements WWE Have Made In 2016
4. Consistently Good PPVs
Consistently Good PPVs
2015 wasn’t exactly a golden year for WWE PPVs. WrestleMania was great, and SummerSlam and Money in the Bank were solid, but that’s about it. Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble were a complete disaster, and the rest of the year’s PPVs were mired in mediocrity.
2016 hasn’t been without its missteps either, but there’s been a noticeable improvement in all-round consistency. WrestleMania 32 and Fastlane were duds and derailed the strong early-year momentum WWE had built with a solid Royal Rumble, but they’ve kept the quality levels relatively high ever since.
AJ Styles has a lot to do with this. Perhaps the best wrestler currently walking the earth, his big match performances with the likes of Roman Reigns, John Cena, and Dean Ambrose have pushed many a WWE PPV up a couple of notches this year. He’s not the only reason, however, and Money in the Bank, Battleground, and Backlash were stacked with excellent supporting matches.
There’s still some work to be done, and both of Raw’s post-draft PPVs have been mired by bewildering booking decisions. Still, 2016 has been a strong year for WWE pay-per-views, and with a few minor tweaks, WWE’s big shows look strong going into the new year.
