The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin get most of the praise when it comes to the success of WWE in the Attitude Era, but one figure who deserves a lot more love is the cuddly deathmatch specialist that is Mick Foley.

Under his Mankind guise, Foley was actually WWE Champion twice in the build-up to Mania XV, beating Rock on both occasions. In fact, The Rock only got the title back from Mankind about six weeks out from the show.

Due to Mick's recent involvement in the main event picture, the idea was pitched for Foley to compete alongside Rock and Austin in a triple threat at The Show of Shows. This seemed to be the plan, until a certain sexy boy got in Vince McMahon's ear.

Shawn Michaels persuaded Vince to keep the match one-on-one, as he thought that WrestleMania should always be closed out by a singles match. Obviously this viewpoint had vanished by the time he main evented WrestleMania XX against Triple H and Chris Benoit...

Mick was still involved in the finale in a referee role, but this last minute switch meant no Mania main event match for Mrs. Foley's Baby Boy.
