10 Biggest Misplaced Complaints About WWE Today
1. Roman Reigns Is Over-Pushed
Of all the criticisms thrown at WWE in 2017, the Roman Reigns issue is the most frustrating. Both sides of the argument have a tendency to go to extremes, and while Reigns’ defenders and critics both bring valid points to the table, the discussion often descends into hysterics.
Reigns has been rejected as “The Guy” by a huge portion of the fanbase. You only need to listen to a single crowd reaction to figure this out, but WWE have shown no signs of abandoning his push. Roman looks set to continue as their chosen “top star” for the foreseeable future, regardless of his reactions, and whether the company’s most vocal fans choose to accept him or not.
Reigns is now every bit as hated as John Cena was a few years ago, but almost none of this is his fault. He has been thrust into a role that doesn’t entirely suit him, and thus, all anger should be directed towards the higher-ups, not Roman himself, who has developed into a very strong all-round performer.
Even if he’s not the fans’ choice, Reigns was recently named as WWE’s top merchandise seller, proving that while he doesn’t connect with everyone, he has a huge appeal to certain demographics. WWE are unlikely to ever remove him from the spotlight for as long as he brings money in, and at this point, no amount of backlash will change that.
