10 Biggest Missed Opportunities By WWE In 2017 So Far
9. New Day Title Loss
When The New Day became the longest reigning Tag Team Champions in WWE history in December 2016, it was a momentous achievement for the charismatic trio. In the fast-paced world of 21st century wrestling, titles rarely stay around the waist of champions for long, let alone well over a year.
Surpassing the 478 day milestone set by Demolition back in 1989, New Day's time on top was a run that could and should have continued on. Sadly, WWE pulled the trigger just days later and their groundbreaking reign came to an end at 483 days in total.
In hindsight, despite breaking the record, the title loss still seemed oddly premature at the time. Had the title run continued on, The New Day could have had weeks and even months of material to wax lyrical about well into 2017.
Similar to how CM Punk would keep a running tally of his 434 day run as WWE Champion, New Day's reign could have been positioned as a feat worth ending - much like 'Taker's 'Streak' - and given the other teams something to aim for in addition to the belts. WrestleMania itself could have been the ideal venue and the Hardys would have been the most credible team to do it.
