10 Biggest Missed Opportunities In The Rock's WWE Career
9. Could Have Worked Well Feuding With Bret Hart
In his autobiography, Bret 'Hitman' Hart claims that he really enjoyed the matches he had with a young Rocky Maivia in 1997, and was actually interested in working with him more than he did. According to Hart, Dwayne Johnson even back then was eager to soak up knowledge and had all the tools to become a top name.
Later in 1997, Rocky Maivia would give way to the far more well-rounded character of The Rock, an egotistical heel who referred to himself in the third person. Imagine this had happened earlier in the year, when Hart was intrigued by the possibilities of a rivalry with the man? Ok, so Bret himself would effectively turn heel at WrestleMania himself, but it would have been cool to see Maivia show signs of his later heel run during matches against the man.
Almost instantly, as soon as he turned rogue, The Rock was able to show what a great talker he was, something he wasn't really given the chance to do as a babyface. The fact he never got to work an extended program with Bret Hart, heel or face, is really a missed trick, because it would have been great to see.
