10 Biggest Mistakes Of WWE's New Era Thus Far

5. Splitting The Tag Division

WWE didn’t just tear their tag team scene apart in the Draft: they effectively crucified it. With six teams on Raw and six on SmackDown, the talent is spread way too thin to create credible divisions. The top teams are left squashing the lesser teams every week, and the lesser teams are fighting for scraps under the table.

WWE have a number of great tag teams on their roster, but there just aren’t enough to go around. Raw has The New Day, Enzo & Cass, and Gallows and Anderson, while SmackDown has American Alpha and arguably The Usos. As far as high-level tag teams go, that’s it. Competition is incredibly thin on the ground, and the better teams are going to struggle to maintain their momentum if they’re working against low-level comedy guys every week.

A wiser move would’ve been to keep all their tag teams on a single brand in in the Draft. This would’ve created an exciting, well-defined division with great match opportunities every single week. As it stands, SmackDown teams have no championships to work towards, and while American Alpha were one of the most exciting acts in NXT, who are they going to wrestle against? The Ascension?!

This segregation will only do the tag division harm in the long-run, and if Vince McMahon suddenly develops the ability to turn back time, this should be one of the first things he fixes.
