9. Turning Shotgun Saturday Night Into A 'C' Show
During the first few episodes of the show, Shotgun Saturday Night provided something truly different for WWF fans to enjoy. Filmed in a dingy night club environment, the program instantly felt unique, totally standing out against shows like Raw and Superstars. Better yet, the broadcast had an altogether more edgy feel to it than anything else the company were presenting. Perhaps Vince McMahon was testing the waters for the upcoming 'Attitude Era'. That certainly seemed to be the case. Whatever he had planned, the boss clearly didn't think Shotgun Saturday Night was much of a success. Relatively quickly, it was changed wholesale, becoming just another also-ran style show on the weekly schedule. This was a real shame to see happen. Instead of the red-hot Terry Funk vs. Steve Austin confrontations that were highlights of early episodes, fans were "treated" to enhancement talent matches and recaps of Monday Night Raw. Re-branded 'Shotgun', the program became virtually useless overnight, and was a real waste of a stirring initial concept. The show should definitely have continued s it started.
