10 Biggest Mysteries Still Surrounding WrestleMania 35
7. How Badly Will WWE Exaggerate The Attendance?
WWE business analyst Brandon Thurston (a must-follow for anyone with an interest in wrestling's inner workings) released the above graph on 16 March, compiling the true 'Mania attendance figures from KPI documents published through WWE's corporate website. Thus, they should be taken as accurate.
We already knew that WWE are prone to working their WrestleMania numbers, and none of the above is technically new information. All of it has been available through the corporate site for years. Regardless, the graph helps present the extent of WWE's exaggerations in a handy, side-by-side format, showcasing a rough upward trend since 2008.
WrestleMania 29 was the last to be held in East Rutherford, New Jersey's MetLife Stadium, which is where WWE's biggest and brightest will be on 7 April. That night saw WWE report a crowd of 80,676 for a 68,900-attended event. We should expect the company to come up with a similar number for 'Mania 35, but who knows? They inflated 34's attendance by over 20,000. There's every chance they could push 35's figure closer to 90,000, and while this won't matter to some, for others it'll serve as yet another reason not to trust the promotion's word on anything outside legal documentation.
