While most people presumed it would unfortunately be the case, Triple H last week confirmed that his in-ring career is now over.

After detailing the scary issues that led to him requiring major surgery for a "cardiac event" last year, Hunter formally made the announcement of his retirement to ESPN. That's not to say that Triple H is completely stepping away from WWE, for the King of Kings added how he will be continuing on in an executive role, but that he is understandably easing himself back into things.

Love him or hate him, Triple H had one of the greatest careers of the modern era. In terms of how WWE measures a career, the real-life Paul Levesque did it all - amassing 14 World Championships, two Royal Rumble wins, a King of the Ring win, five Intercontinental Title reigns, two European Title runs, three stints as a Tag Team Champion, and headline spots at numerous WrestleManias.

It's likely that Levesque himself would rather stay out of the spotlight at this point in time, yet it may well be that WWE decides to honour the Cerebral Assassin with at least a video package detailing his time in the squared circle.

Once described as the Swiss Army Knife of WhatCulture, Andrew can usually be found writing, editing, or presenting on a wide range of topics. As a lifelong wrestling fan, horror obsessive, and comic book nerd, he's been covering those topics professionally as far back as 2010.
