It seems somehow wrong to talk about a Japanese match's significance in the context of what it meant for WWE, but in this case it is kind of unavoidable.

For both Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles, Wrestle Kingdom X would be the last stop before leaving the world of Japanese wrestling for the well-earned opportunity to make their fortunes in Vince McMahon's empire.

So, apart from being a thrilling match - one that was, incredibly, usurped on the night by the IWGP World Title main event that followed it - it was also huge flash-point in recent wrestling history. The final opportunity (for a few years, anyway) to see two of the industry's biggest stars in their natural habitat.

And, lest we forget, much of the current clamour to see these two get it on under the WWE lights stems from this incredible encounter. We now know (as if we didn't already) that putting AJ in the ring with the King of Strong Style is a simpy phenomenal idea. Your move, Vince.
