10 Biggest One Hit Wonders In Wrestling History
5. Maven
Known for: shockingly dropkicking The Undertaker out of the 2002 Royal Rumble.
It was a timelessly brilliant, bold move. WWE faced no competition at the time - WCW and ECW had been officially, officially canned at Survivor Series two months before, and TNA was still months off from being unearthed - so they could do no wrong. They also needed new stars: Maven was a star.
For a night.
Why didn't he thrive after: because you don't survive the trenches after one dropkick.
That is the very point of this list: to dissect those whose one viral moment is all that they are remembered for. You can't hope to name a Maven singles match that you actually remember without scouring Cagematch. WWE tried, bless them, to present Maven as more than just a dropkick in the immediate aftermath of the Rumble. Within that week, he was challenging Chris Jericho and The Undertaker for the Undisputed and Hardcore Championships, respectively, even winning the latter, but Maven was a scrappy little fella drowning in a sea of literal mass. He wasn't as big as Triple H, and in 2002, that mattered.
He got another push in 2004, becoming Raw General Manager for a night, but much like in January 2002, Maven was a one night stand of virality.
