10 Biggest "Out Of Left Field" WWE Booking Decisions
6. Hulk Hogan Wins The WWE Championship At WrestleMania XIX (1993)
From a genuinely great surprise to one of the most notorious "out of left field" booking decisions ever. Hulk Hogan returned to WWE from a sabbatical just in time for WrestleMania IX, lending his star power to a show notably lacking in it. But teaming with real-life friend Brutus Beefcake to battle Money Inc. for the Tag Team Championship was not enough for the egotistical industry icon. No, he used his backstage political pull to snake his way into the main event later in the night. Moments after Bret Hart lost the WWE Championship to Yokozuna, Hogan ran to ringside to try and argue with the official, telling him that Mr. Fuji had thrown salt in The Hitman's eyes. For some reason, the new champion and his manager issued a challenge to The Hulkster. Seconds later, Hogan dodged another salt attack, dropped a big leg and left the show with the title despite not being in the contention for the gold. Adding insult to injury, Hart was shoved into the background for the next six months as Hogan and others took centre stage, halting the momentum he had built for himself.
