5. Vince McMahon Is The Higher Power (1999)
There is no more disappointing conclusion to a single storyline than that of the 'Higher Power'. After months of speculation as to whom The Undertaker was referring to, fans sat in universal disappointment as Vince McMahon revealed himself to be the mysterious entity. The booking was off-the-wall and out of left field, making absolutely zero sense within the context of the story told to that point. McMahon had been the target of Undertaker's ruthlessness. His daughter was kidnapped and nearly wed to The Lord of Darkness. His home was vandalized and a giant burning Undertaker symbol placed on his lawn. He was tortured on a weekly basis, sometimes physically and often emotionally. The decision to have McMahon under the hood was completely unexpected, a booking move that backfired because fans saw right through it. They recognized it was a last-ditch effort to salvage the storyline and create a 'shocking moment'. It was a major disappointment given the effort that went into it. The worst "out of left field" decisions are the ones that lack sense and this is one of the most infamous examples of that.
