10 Biggest "Out Of Left Field" WWE Booking Decisions

3. John Cena Enters And Wins The Royal Rumble (2008)

When John Cena tore his pectoral muscle in October 2007, it looked as if WWE would be forced to come up with WrestleMania plans that did not involve the leader of the Chain Gang for the first time in four years. Then it happened. At the Royal Rumble in January 2008, Cena stunned the world by returning to the squared circle well ahead of schedule and entering the 30-man over-the-top-rope match. There, the No.30 entrant overcame Triple H, delivering an Attitude Adjustment over the top rope and scoring his first ever Rumble victory. Booking decisions that come from out of left field and double as swerves are rare. When done correctly, they generate tremendous excitement and make for unforgettable moments. Cena's return did just that, drawing one of the loudest ovations ever heard in Madison Square Garden. And in the process, it proved the West Newbury, Massachusetts native's incredible dedication to his craft and his determination to compete on the grandest stage known to professional wrestling.
